چکیده

Aberrant buccal nervesarising from the mandibular canal and passing through the retromolar canal into the buccinator muscle is a rarely encountered anatomical variation. This paper will discuss two cases of such variations. In the first, paresthesia developed due to injury to the abnormal nerve during dissection, due to our inexperience. In the second, a cautious dissection based on the experience gained in the first case was performed, and no complication was observed. The related literature suggests thatbuccal nerve connections can pass through a retromolar canal. We conclude thatwhen anesthesia remains incomplete during mandibular wisdom tooth extraction, an aberrant retromolar nerve passage should be suspected. In such cases, computed tomography should be performed if possible, and a cautious surgical approach should be adopted to preserve functioning of retromolar sensory nerves.

Radiographic study of the mandibular retromolar canal: an anatomic structure with clinical importance.

INTRODUCTION The retromolar canal is an anatomic structure of the mandible with clinical importance. This canal branches off from the mandibular canal behind the third molar and travels to the retromolar foramen in the retromolar fossa. The retromolar canal might conduct accessory innervation to the mandibular molars or contain an aberrant buccal nerve. METHODS Patients referred for panoramic...

Occurrence of the Retromolar Foramen in Dry Mandibles of South-Eastern Part of India: A Morphological Study with Review of the Literature

The retromolar foramen (RMF) is a rare anatomical structure situated in the retromolar fossa behind the third molar tooth. When it is present, the foramen is connected with the mandibular canal and is believed to transmit neurovascular structures that provide accessory source to the mandibular molars and the buccal area. Reports from the literature show that the presence of RMF could pose a cha...

Case Report: Permanent Maxillary First Molar with Two Roots and Two Canals: A Rare Case Report

Abstract: Human maxillary first molars are usually considered as three-rooted teeth with four root canals for the presence of a second canal in the Mesio Buccal root (MB2). In addition, lateral ramifications and apical delta of the root canal system may frequently occur, increasing the probability of leaving untreated spaces after the root canal therapy. A thorough knowledge of root canal mor...
